Yesterday Connor broke our camera. In an attempt to help Connor understand the significance of that, Lee tried (again) to explain the significance of money and work.
"It takes a lot of money to buy a camera," he explained.
"We can get some money from the bank," Connor offered.
"But we don't have unlimited money in the bank," Lee attempted. "I have to work so that we can put money in the bank. We can't get everything we want. And now we have to buy a new camera, so that means you won't get something you want."
I wasn't sure Connor understood.
This morning when I woke up Lee was already gone.
"Lee--" I called.
Connor heard me from the other room. He came into my room.
"Daddy's gone, Mommy. He went to work. We need a new camera, so he had to go to work."
