Boys will be boys

The inevitable has happened. This morning Connor broke his leg.

In his short life Connor has given us our share of medical adventures. He had tubes put in his ears before his first birthday. He had stitches when he was two. He's had three trips to the emergency room due to severe asthma attacks, and one emergency trip to the pediatrician when the nebulizer failed to help his breathing after three rounds of treatment. Earlier this year he stuffed play-do in his ear. A few weeks later he stuck a plastic eye from a craft project up his nose. (He approached Lee, blood dripping from his nose, and cried, "Daddy, I have an eye in my nose.") In three years he has already seen more specialists than I have in thirty years. We knew it was only a matter of time before he had a broken bone.

It finally happened this morning. He jumped off the couch and fell down. Something so simple, and yet it fractured his tibula. Now he has a full-leg cast. A blue one, like Leonardo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

And he is totally milking this thing. Lee told me to give him ice-cream shortly after it happened. After he got his cast Lee took him to the store so that he could pick out Popsicles. At Qdobas he got free guacamole AND a free brownie. He is sleeping in our bed tonight. And he seems overjoyed by the fact that I have to carry or push him everywhere. Earlier today he told me that he needed to sit in Laila's stroller because that would make his leg feel better. So I indulged him.

"Om, Mommy, can you just push me around?"

"Where do you want to go?"

"Oh, you can just push me around the coffee table." (Big devilish grin.) "Leonardo's hurt. He can't walk right now, so you can just push me."

The next few weeks will be interesting.
